Ante-natal care

Care throughout your pregnancy is available at the surgery. Once there is a confirmation of your pregnancy you will be asked to make an appointment with the midwifery team. Ante-natal checks will be made with doctor by appointment. Post-natal examination will also be made by appointment 8 weeks after delivery. All of the doctors provide ante-natal care in association with the practice midwife. Ante-natal clinic are held every Monday 10-12.30pm at Betts Avenue and Wednesday at Kenton,1.30-3pm. Parentcraft classes are held by the midwife and health visitor and no appointment is necessary. At the Well-Baby clinics a doctor and health visitor are in attendance. At the clinic your baby can be weighed or given immunisations together with development checks. No appointment is necessary. 

Anticoagulant monitoring


Patients taking Warfarin, or other drugs which need regular blood monitoring can attend the surgery for blood tests. You will be notified if this applies to you. Asthma We advise all our patients with asthma to attend an annual review. All our doctors can undertake the assessment and patients should make an appointment by contacting reception. 
 

Asthma/COPD

 
Nurse Michelle Cairns is specialised in Asthma and COPD.
 

Cervical smears 


These can be arranged through the receptionist. For women between 25-50 this should be every three years and for women between 50-65 every five years (or more frequently if indicated). This can be done here at the surgery, by either your doctor or a practice nurse. 

Counselling 


A fully trained counsellor is available to discuss mental health issues and personal problems. See your doctor to make an appointment. 

Diabetes 


We aim to achieve good control of diabetes and prevent complications by providing regular check ups and education. Appointments will be offered to all patients with diabetes. 

Family planning 


We offer confidential contraceptive and family planning advice and services during normal surgery hours. Coils can be fitted at the surgery. Condom information is available on request. Pre-conception advice is also available. Family planning clinics are also held by the local health authority and further detailed information is available at the Family planning association http://www.fpa.org.uk/a 

Foreign travel 


We offer a full range of vaccinations for foreign travel. Please arrange an appointment for any advice with the practice nurse. Further information is available at http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk 

Heart disease 


Appointments will be offered to all patients who have angina or who have had a heart attack or stroke, who have heart failure, or who are at high risk of developing heart disease. The aim is to review the condition and treatment, and lower risk factors in order to prevent further illness. 
 

Health promotion

 
The practice is involved in various Health Promotion Campaigns such as, Healthy eating, smoking cessation, flu vaccination.  Further information is available from the practice.

 

Minor surgery 


The practice operates a minor surgery clinic where the removal of small tags/cysts are undertaken. Please arrange an appointment through your doctor. 

Nursing services 


The practice employs three practice nurses who can help with minor injuries, dressings, injections, removal of stitches, ear syringing, blood tests, cervical smears, family planning and health promotion. District nurses also provide treatment and advice to the housebound, patients recently discharged from hospital, the terminally ill and visit patients over 75 years to carry out health checks. Health Visitors andcommunity midwives are also attached to the practice. To make an appointment please contact reception.  
 
 

Nursing triage 

 
The Lead Nurse, Angela Wall provides a Nurse Triage Clinic daily to assit you with your minor ailments.  The Nurse will contact you to discuss your symptoms and ask you to come to the surgery only if required.  The Lead Nurse is also Nurse Prescriber, therefore she will be able to do your medication prescriptions for you.

Psychologist  


A Clinical Psychologist holds weekly clinics at the surgery to help people with a wide range of emotional and relational problems. See your doctor to make an appointment. 

Smoking cessation 


Our trained nurses can help patients to go smokefree. Regular one to one counselling can be arranged through reception. Further help is also available at local NHS venues. Further information is available at Find your local NHS Stop Smoking Service. 

Vaccinations and immunisations 


A full range of vaccinations and immunisations are available for both adults and children including flu, tetanus, meningitis and hepatitis. Please ask for further details or arrange to see the practice nurse. Please click here for further information on flu vaccination and childhood immunisation.

Weight Management

The practice offers Weight Management appiontments with the Practice Nurse who will give you advice and support on healthy eating.

 

Data Protection 


The practice is registered and complies with the Data Protection Act 1998. Any request for access to notes by a patient, patient’s representative or outside body will be dealt with in accordance with the Act. Please contact the Practice Manager for further information.

Change of personal details 


If you change name, address or telephone number, please let our receptionists know by calling or writing to us, it could be that you are moving outside of the practice area and will need to re-register. 

Chaperones 


If you would like a chaperone to be present during your consultation please ask at reception 

Complaints policy 


We take complaints very seriously. We like to respond quickly, sympathetically and fully to any complaint made. Please, should the need arise, make direct contact with one of the partners or the practice manager. If you are unhappy with us or the services we provide, you have the right at anytime to leave our list of patients and register with another practice. 

Confidentiality 


Confidentiality is a top priority. If you wish to speak to a receptionist or any member of the practice team in private, please ask at reception. 

Disabled access 


There is good access for the disabled to all of our consultation rooms. A designated parking bay is adjacent to the surgery entrance and the surgery has a ramp and wide doors to allow for wheelchair access. 

Medical education   


We are a training practice and you may be offered an appointment with a GP registrar. These doctors are fully qualified will have had experience in several hospital specialties. They are completing their specialist training as a GP. We also teach medical students and sometimes you may be asked to see the doctor or nurse with a student present. You will always be asked beforehand if this is acceptable and you may ask for the student to withdraw if you prefer to have your consultation in private. 

New Patient registrations   


You will be given an appointment with a health care assistant when you first register with us. This consultation is important, as it provides us with background information about you.
